MAGRAFICA

2024 – 2025

campaign
visual identity

printed matter

Magrafica is an exhibition of contemporary graphic work, in the spirit of Frans Masereel. Artists were invited to create graphic work around the theme of democracy. A topic more relevant today than ever.

I designed a visual identity that reflects the political and democratic themes of the project. Typography plays an important role here. The central font “Bayard” was inspired by the hand-painted letters on protest signs from Masereels time. I literally overprinted this typography with a radiant shape, a direct reference to Masereels recognisable forms with which he accentuated his figures.

More than 150 works were submitted in a rich diversity of graphic techniques, from woodcut over lino to lithography, etching and screen printing. 80 works were selected for publication in this catalogue.

The catalogue is printed on Munken Polar, which shows off the different printing techniques and colours to their best advantage. The publication is bound with a red elastic, allowing the works to be pulled out and re-arranged as individual posters. The works in the catalogue have no fixed order, reinforcing the project's democratic theme.

Images dominate the catalogue. Therefore, texts have been kept to a minimum and bundled on the inner flaps and a central index page.
